H.A.I. - Hip Artificial Intelligence

Mock Ad / Experiment / Hyper-short

I had some serious fun with the creation process on this one. Originally, I just wanted to combine a couple of my interests (robots & artificial intelligence) into something cool. At the same time, I realized that the visuals will need an organic feel to counter the cold, robotic movements. That’s why I first animated and rendered the little robot, than smudged every frame by hand. The visual experiment needed a carrier, so I made it into a fictional mock commercial for a robot that can make all the choices instead of you. Because, why not?

THE GOAL: Create a fun mock ad, fueled by potential stupidity of using AI - to explore a new visual approach.

IDEAS & PROCESS

The process itself was pretty straightforward, but fun nonetheless: I created, rigged, animated & rendered the robot in Blackmagic Fusion. Then, I imported the rendered images into Photoshop and smudged them by hand - each and every one of them… Also, in Photoshop, I added some hand drawn animation on top. What started as a fun exercise, ended in a lesson well learnt. Would love to go back and revisit this style someday.
